A Photo Essay. 21 May 2011. The Revival Will be Live… It Will NOT be Televised… Severodvinsk

A parish church in Severodvinsk (Arkhangelsk Oblast, Northwestern Federal District) RF… as Severodvinsk is a “Soviet” city, there were no churches there (save for an old 17th century monastery built in what was then-empty wilderness) until the fall of the atheist state. In this case, an old warehouse or workshop was converted for worship purposes.

Official Rollout of APL (SSN) Severodvinsk at Sevmash Shipyard (Severodvinsk) in 2010… note the priest in the foreground… that means that the revival is as strong in the provinces as it is in the capitals… no mean thing, that…

Important as they are, it’s more critical to note what’s happening in the provinces, rather than to harp on the events in Moscow and Petersburg. It’s clear that the revival is just as strong (if not stronger) in places like Severodvinsk. The decline in population here was due to the fact that it was a “service town”… and when the forces were cut back, people moved to where the work was. The same thing will happen in the USA when it has to cut back its forces (for the same reason that the post-Soviet states did… lack of money)… Norfolk and San Diego will lose population, and some smaller towns will be wiped out.

I wanted my first example of “provincial revival”  to be one of the “Soviet cities”… that is, a town with no stock of Tsarist-era churches, a town that was planned from the outset to be officially “godless”. Look well at the interiors of the new churches… they are mute witnesses to the fact that the Western Renovationists (mostly SVS in Yonkers and St Sergius in Paris) are 24-carat solid-gold liars, pure and simple. There are no minimal, “peek-a-boo”, iconostases here. These are traditional, full-height, affairs. Mind you, these aren’t old buildings brought back up to snuff… these are new-build edifices.  That is, the tradition isn’t a “pickled in formaldehyde” corpse… it’s alive… and it’s still practised! What does that tell us about SVS and St Sergius? At the least, it means that they’re missing out on the real deal revival in Russia. I feel sorry for those that the Renovationists have misled…

The Revival will NOT be televised… the Revival will be LIVE!*

*This is a shameless crib from Gil Scott-Heron’s “The Revolution will NOT be televised… the Revolution will be LIVE!” Hey, if you combine the best of Christ with what’s right in Marx… put Red and White together… whew, you’re talking CRITICAL MASS…
