In this engraving, the Third Estate (the commoners) is crushed under by the weight of supporting the nobility and the clergy. In modern terms, the ordinary people are crushed under with lowered wages and a regressive tax system to support the wastrel ways of the oligarchs and their clerisy (politicians/media sorts) enablers. This cartoon illustrates the ordinary people carrying the drones of the nobility and clergy on its back. Today, the ordinary people carry the oligarchs and the political/media establishment on its back… as they do so, the oligarchs, politicians, and the media excoriate them for greediness and taking too much from society, as the people’s share of the pie grows ever smaller. Doesn’t the clergyman bear an uncanny resemblance to Rush Limboob?

The National Debt

THIS is the only way that we’ll be able to tackle the national debt… all classes will have to shoulder some of the burden. However, the oligarchs (and their shills in the Republican Party and media) have made it clear that they REFUSE to bear any of the burden of the debt. That is, the only class to benefit from the disordered economy resulting from Reaganomics refuses to pay ANY of the costs of repairing the situation. That is, they partied hearty, they reaped all the profits, and you have to suffer the hangover whilst they scamper off scot-free to their country club for another round of golf…

When the people do rise up… watch out! God knows what’ll happen… and all bets’ll be off. It’ll happen in a relative trice, just as in the August Events in 1991. No doubt, the oligarchs will order out troops to fire on the people… and they’ll refuse… just like in Moscow… just like in Cairo… just like in Tunis.

Here’s what gonna happen in the end. Push people hard enough… they bite back! The oligarchs are depriving millions of their homes and vital social services. It’ll come to a head… I’m not advocating anything… I’m not calling for revolution, but the signs are there. August 1788 redux… just as the Ancien Régime refused to face reality until it was too late to stem the tide, the current oligarchs and their lackeys party on, oblivious to the ferment beneath them. One can almost pity them… until one realises and understands their heartlessness. Then, one closes their heart to pity, as the full import of their greed and cruelty sinks in. It won’t be pretty… God do help us…
