17 October 2013. Only in Russia! Now There be Some Giant Arbuzi in the Cossack Land, I Be Told!

00 Boy with giant watermelons in Krasnodar Krai. 17.10.13

A boy stands between two big watermelons at the “Watermelon Paradise” festival in the village of Strelka (Krasnostrelskoye Rural SettlementTemryuk Raion) in Krasnodar Krai (that be Cossack country, chum). Any inferences, dirty or otherwise, reside solely in the mind of the beholder… now, I didn’t say anything, did I? You wanna know what “arbuzi” are… why, that’s just “watermelons” in Russian… didn’t everybody know that?

On Saturday, 23 July, during a visit to Starocherkassk, former Bulgarian football great Khristo Stoichkov (1966- ) (on the right) took the Cossack oath.

Stoichkov did this as part of his visit to Rostov-on-Don. In the image above, one of the atamans of the Don Cossacks inducted the Bulgarian football star into the Cossacks.

During his visit to the Don, Stoichkov met with members of the Rostov Oblast administration, they discussed the development of youth football in the region.

In addition, Stoichkov visited the “Rostov” Institute, where he talked with students at the school club. He also visited one of Rostov’s children’s’ homes. In the image above, Stoichkov dances with the soloists of a Cossack ensemble after his initiation.

Stoichkov, who’s legendary in world football circles (he’s known as “The Dagger”, and his on-pitch ferocity is famous), will stay in the southern capital until 24 July, and he’ll return to Bulgaria after the FC Rostov-FC Dinamo match on Sunday.

A Photo Essay. Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev Remembered the Honoured Dead of the VOV Battle of the “Malaya Zemlya” in Novorossisk

Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev honoured the memory of the Red Army soldiers who fell in one of the more important battles of the VOV, the amphibious landing at the “Malaya Zemlya” (“The Small Land”) in Novorossisk (Krasnodar Krai. Southern Federal District). The Church honours the Red Army dead… the People honour the Red Army dead… the Cossacks honour the Red Army dead… the Army (of course) honours the Red Army dead… the State honours the Red Army dead… what’s not to like in that? One last thing… my sources tell me that many of the parish priests in the Church are supporting the KPRF in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The oligarchs are nasty and grasping… just like their American counterparts, I must say. The Church does NOT support such demonic greed… NEVER forget that.
