The Rousanou Convent of St Barbara is one of the Meteora complex of monasteries in Greece. When these gals “left the world”, they LEFT the world. Originally, it was a male monastery, but it became a women’s house later on. Until the 17th century, the only way to get provisions was to haul them up on ropes. Today, the entire complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
